Patrick Ness visits Avon Valley
Friday, 12 June 2009
We were thrilled to play host to the Warwickshire Library Services Carnegie shadowing event on Thursday 11th June.  We welcomed over a dozen schools from across the county and were delighted to be joined by the award winning author Patrick Ness.
Patrick Ness, Carnegie medal finalist, spent over an hour talking to students and staff about what it is to be a writer, where budding writers can draw inspiration from and, more importantly, discussing his brilliant book, ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’.

After his brief talk, Ness took a variety of questions from all of the students and answered them with honesty and humour.  It was, undoubtedly, a genuine pleasure to hear him talk about his book, why he writes and what inspires him.  I, along with all the staff and students involved, were very grateful for his patience in signing so many copies of his book and I thoroughly recommend both ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’ and the sequel ‘The Ask and the Answer’!

In 2009 the Year 7 students took part in RENDEVOUS WITH A COMET! They were involved in many fun and exciting activities designed to test their skills not only in Mission Control but also on their Space Ship on its journey to meet COMET AVS, which the students got to name. Throughout the mission students have to use Maths, English, ICT and Science based skills to ensure the mission will be a success.
